Hatch Date: Approx 2018
Mango is a sweet Sun Conure presumed to be around 8 years old. He has been DNA sexed male.

Mango had to be surrendered because of some aggressive behavior in his former home, but with the change of scenery as well as some environmental changes, no aggression has occurred in his foster home so far.

He will ride around on his foster mom's shoulder, but has a clear preference for men.
If a man enters the room when he is with his foster mom, he will fly over to him. He likes hanging out with the boys.

He eats a healthy diet of pellets and chop, but only really touches the chop when his pellets run out, so timing his meals so that he has one or the other helps him get more nutrients in.

His treat food for training is fruit. He is in love with apples, grapes, and nearly any sweet fruit imaginable.

He is still a bit timid with his foster home, and will go back in his cage if someone approaches him, but then will come back out a moment later--- almost like he wants to make sure you're not dangerous before he will trust you to interact without a barrier in front of him.

He has not bitten yet in his foster home, and takes treats nicely from the family's fingers.
The foster home is working on touch training with him. He doesn't step up on hands yet, but shows a lot of promise.

He is always okay to step back on his cage from a shoulder, and puts himself to bed in his cage, although that may change the more comfortable he gets! He is still in the early days in his foster home, so he doesn't like to leave "home base" much.

He makes his presence known, as do all Sun Conures, but isn't overly noisy or attention seeking. He does the standard bird screaming to match talking and other noise in the room.

Hatch Date: 2021 Give a warm welcome to our newest member of the gang Killua-aka- Kiki.

Killua is a very handsome 5.5 year old Blue Masked Lovebird.
He is both disease and DNA tested having been confirmed male.

Killua is not hand tame, but will approach for his favorite treat and once comfortable, will take it from your hand.
He is not a biter, he is gentle but as to be expected, is still skittish as he's now been separated by the only caretaker he has known and a foster life is very new for him.

This guy is on an incredibly healthy diet, and knows his schedule by heart.

AM: He eats a handful of Sprouts..and he loves them.

Midday: He dines on a small scoop of Miracle Meal with some added Higgins Egg Mix.

Dinner time: He awaits his generous scoop of his Linnie Mix Seed.

Killua has a healthy appetite, and both his foods and schedule need to be adhered to.
This is a huge factor for his continued well being.
Killua appears very healthy and his diet is the main contributor.

Lastly, he very much enjoys out of cage time.
Door open and he will come out then back in himself until he's ready to call it a day.
He is one good boy searching for his forever family.

Kiki (Killua)

Hatch Date: April 1, 1995
Kita is a delightful 31-year-old Blue Front Amazon.
Kita is a DNA-confirmed female.
She can be loud at times, possibly not ideal for Condo or apartment living.
She prefers to be cared for by women.
She does very well in active family household.
She is in good health and is very colorful, both inside and outside. Affectionate and loving, she enjoys cuddles and kisses, and loves joining you for meals to share your food.
Kita has been living within the same family since she was two months old.
Unfortunately, her first mom passed away shortly thereafter; however, Kita easily transitioned to live with her mom’s sister in Pompton Lakes, NJ.
Knowing that it may take time to find the perfect new home for Kita, her guardian has chosen to be proactive and responsibly begin the process.
Kita appears more comfortable and happier with women. She responds well to gentle handling and will cuddle with her mom on the couch.
She has her wings clipped out of caution since she has the opportunity to spend mild days out in her porch cage. Indoors, she loves spending time watching television with the family, playing with toys, and taking showers from a spray bottle.
Kita requires lots of bird toys to keep her occupied and content. Kita is quite comfortable keeping herself amused while her people are at work. Her favorite toys are anything made of wood blocks and rope. The television is left on for her to enjoy during the day. She likes the Nick Jr. channel, Paw Patrol and Peppa Pig. She loves cartoons!
While supervised, Kita enjoys out-of-cage time. She traverses from her cage, across the couch, and onto her manzanita tree stand. Surprisingly, Kita is very considerate not to make a “mess” during her journeys. She enjoys sitting on her perch on the side of her cage and will let you know she wants something to eat by saying "hot" or “come on” or “helloooo” or “peek-a-boo” or “whee-whee-whee”. When she gets excited, she will make some cute noises and fluff up. She will become vocal if you are on speakerphone or if there is a lot of background noise (she just wants to join the party!) It would be best that she not live in an apartment or condo because of this. However, given ample attention and stimulating toys, she will be quite content when with her family.
She is comfortable living with cats (while supervised only). Her mom is not certain how she would react to small children. She has lived with smaller birds over the years and showed no interest in them.
Kita has a healthy diet of Harrison’s pellets and enjoys bananas, strawberries, peaches, apples, as well as pasta and vegetables. Nuts are given only as a favorite treat. She is trained to “step up” on a hand but does not like stepping up on a wood dowel. In the evening, her cage gets covered for a sound 10 hours of sleep.
Kita has been disease tested for psittacosis and PBFD.

Kita is participating in our Help With Rehoming program and is living with her current owner in Pompton Lakes, NJ.
We only allow approved applicants to make visits and will only be adopted to a forever home within driving distance.
We will not ship our birds.
For the Love of Birds is a group of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA.
We do not have a central location.
Kita will require 3 visits before adoption.

Hatch Date: May 1997 Kono is a DNA tested Female Goffins Cockatoo, 28 years old Diagnosed with PDD - Avian Borna Virus. SPECIAL NEEDS This bird is a sweetheart. One of the best birds I have ever fostered! Not your average hand tame bird, excepts hugs regularly and she will allow you to chicken grab her ;) Seems to prefer females, but is not aggressive towards men as we have seen. She is going to need someone with experience, educated or no other birds in the home, unless also PDD positive. There are other birds in her foster home, but to we are very carefull to clean her cage last.We are-not seeing any signs of issues with her so far. She will not do well in a Condo, Apartment, or Townhouse type of residence. She has been known to come down of the cage and has been known to wander around the house, so will need constant supervision when out of the cage, and looking to be around no other animals that will be a threaten her well-being. She is NOT on any medication at this time. But may require some in the future. She eats an extremely well, fresh and pelleted diet. NO seed. We are looking for a female that gets to work from home. She requires regular out-of-cage time and attention. She is a Cockatoo, so will be loud at times, but not a constant screamer.
Kono is foster in Leonardo, NJ

Hatch Date: 2022
Sunny and Rama are a bonded pair of Cockatiels. Sunny (grey & white) is female and Rama (pied) is male. They are approximately 4 1/2 years old. They came into their current home separately and then bonded.
They've had 2 clutches, one in 2023, which produced 2 babies and one in 2024, which produced 3 babies. Their adopter must take care not to allow them to continue to produce offspring. You can't always prevent females from laying eggs, but you can shake them early on so they are not viable or exchange them for Dummy Eggs.
Their current mom is working on converting them to pellets, but is not having very much luck. They are being stubborn.
The pair is cautious around new people. But once they get to know you, they are very friendly and hand-tame. Rama loves to sing and sang back and forth with another male cockatiel in the home. They are excellent flyers and are used to spending their days outside of their cage. They go into their cage to sleep at night.
Sunny & Rama must be adopted together as a pair. They will require a home with no dogs or cats...they are afraid of the barking from the neighbor's dog, and it is very stressful for them.
Sunny and Rama have been disease tested for PBFD and Chlamydia.
The pair is participating in our Help with Rehoming program and is still with their family in Edison, NJ. They will only be adopted to a forever home within driving distance. We will NOT ship our birds. Two visits are required to adopt Sunny and Rama.
For the Love of Birds is a group of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA. We do not have a central location. We only allow approved applicants to make visits.

If interested in adopting Sunny and Rama, you must be willing to make the required number of visits. Please visit our website ftlob.rescuegroups.org. Please read our adoption policies & procedures and complete an adoption application.
